SPORTS UPDATE - Midstate Athletic Conference

On Friday, September 11, 2020, the Midstate Athletic Conference (MAC) voted to postpone all interscholastic athletics until January 4, 2021.  Upon the start of athletics next January, the MAC will follow the NYSPHSAA schedule for condensed seasons: winter sports, fall sports, then spring sports.  With the later start date, we are hopeful that all athletic seasons will be able to be completed in their entirety. This may also include sectional and state-level play, as allowable, for the respective sports. While this was a difficult decision, the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and fans was paramount.
The member schools of the MAC understand the important role that athletics plays in the social, emotional, and physical well-being or our student-athletes.   The MAC will continue its work to prepare for successful seasons upon the return to competition, including coordination with Section IV, NYSPHSAA, local health departments, and government authorities.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue working together to provide opportunities for our athletes in the safest possible manner.

Softball Senior Recognition!

Softball Senior Recognition!
I am honored to be the coach of the B-G girls varsity softball team. In particular, I am especially proud of the 2020 team. The girls have worked extremely hard during the summer, winter and the pre-season to prepare for what we anticipated to be an exceptional year. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to play due to Covid-19 and the cancellation of school and sports.

This year we have 3 outstanding seniors on our team:

Alli Miller - Daughter of Rich and Nanci Miller

Years on Varsity – 5

Alli is a 2 year captain of our team. She is a very versatile softball player, having the ability to play any position on the field. Alli excelled in the circle as well as exceptional play at third base. She has worked very hard to also become a consistent hitter in our line-up. Even though her on field performance has always been outstanding, it is her leadership and knowledge that will be missed the most.

Bailey Hart – Daughter of Rodney and Jessica Hart

Years on Varsity – 4

Bailey is a captain of our team who is an outstanding outfielder and third baseman. She is one of the most aggressive athletes a coach could ever hope to have. Bailey’s rifle of an arm could throw out even the fastest runners trying to get to first base. As good as her defense is, her offense is even better. She is our 4 batter which produced a tremendous amount of runs batted in and numerous homeruns. Bailey’s leadership and enthusiasm for the game will be missed by us all.

Samantha Ceresna – Daughter of Brooks Ceresna and Dawn Page

Years on Varsity – 3

Sam is a true utility player. She came to every game ready and willing to play wherever the team needed her that night. Although Sam is a very good defensive player, her true passion is hitting. Sam’s greatest attribute is leading by example. She shows us all how not only to be a good player and teammate but how to be a great person.

Although we did not get to see these three young ladies show their amazing talent their senior season, I am forever grateful for what they gave to the BG Softball program. They will be greatly missed. Congratulations and best of luck!!

Senior Track Recognition

Senior Track Recognition As unfortunate as the loss of the spring season has been, our hopes are that this can be a constant reminder for everyone to seize every opportunity as it may not present itself again. Here is a special shout out to our seniors that had their season cut short.

Justice Franklin- Mother Crystal Dewey
Justice was a newcomer to track and field during her 10th grade year when she first came to B-G. Justice always brought a great attitude to practice and competitions. Justice focused on the hurdles and on becoming a long jump prodigy.

Eian Hall- Parents Erica and Jason Hall
Eian has been a member of the B-G track and field team throughout his time in high school. Entering his senior season Eian had his eyes set on the school record for high jump and triple jump. Eian was always eager to try new events. After narrowly missing the indoor track and field state championship Eian was waiting to have another shot.

Nate Henry- Parents Ann and Sean Henry
Nate has been a member of the B-G track and field team throughout his time in high school. Nate has demonstrated skills of being a leader and has excelled in the shotput and discus. Coming off a very strong Indoor Track and Field season Nate had his eyes set on making a push to advance to the state championship for the spring season.

Zach Ladd- Parents Suzan and John Ladd
Zach has been a member of the B-G track and field team throughout his time in high school. During his time in the program Zach has focused mainly on improving in shotput and discus.

Parker Luca- Parents Patricia and Christopher Luca
Parker was new to the B-G track and field team during his junior year. Parker competed in various jumping  and short sprint events during his only full season.

Matthew Vigus- Mother Trisha Vigus
Matthew has been a member of the B-G track and field team throughout his time in high school. Matthew always looked forward to the spring season where he could show off his speed in sprint events and long jump.

We would like to thank all of our athletes and their parents for what they have added to the Track and Field program over the years!

Best of luck in your future endeavors!
