Junior Honor Society Inducts New Members

The Virginia Butler Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) has selected 21 students in grades 8 & 9 for induction for the 2020-2021 school year.  The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of leadership, service, character and citizenship. At Bainbridge-Guilford students must be in the 8th or 9th grade and have an overall average of 90 or higher in order to be invited to apply for membership.

Membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but also challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. This year’s members, even while dealing with a global pandemic, were able to raise money through a hat day at school and proceeded to organize a winter clothing drive and used the money they raised to purchase additional items that were needed for the students in our district.

Congratulations to this year’s inductees:
 9th grade:
Madalynn Brown, Lindsey Chambers, Osias Mealing
 8th grade:
Trevor Bachman, Loegan Barnard, Chandler Benjamin, Vanessa Brazee, Ellie Brown, Samuel Davidson, Owen Fleming, Jamila George, Olivia Hall, Jocelynn Hulbert, Timothy Kinter, Anthony Pfaff, Mia Pfaff, Brock Porter, Blake Prisco, Clare Sullivan, Erinne Sullivan, Gabriel Weisflogg

Spanish Students Win Comic Book Award!

WoolyCon is an international Spanish comic book writing competition that was held this spring. This year one hundred and thirty-five schools participated from five countries around the world. The B-G Spanish 2 and 4 classes all wrote comics. A few were selected to be entered into the contest. Of those submitted 2 of our students are being recognized. Maddie Blake was nominated for best storyline in the Spanish 2 category and Chelsie (Palmer) Baker won 1st prize for best storyline in the Spanish 3 and above category. We are so very proud of the amazing work these students have done. Congratulations!

SPORTS UPDATE - Midstate Athletic Conference

On Friday, September 11, 2020, the Midstate Athletic Conference (MAC) voted to postpone all interscholastic athletics until January 4, 2021.  Upon the start of athletics next January, the MAC will follow the NYSPHSAA schedule for condensed seasons: winter sports, fall sports, then spring sports.  With the later start date, we are hopeful that all athletic seasons will be able to be completed in their entirety. This may also include sectional and state-level play, as allowable, for the respective sports. While this was a difficult decision, the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and fans was paramount.

The member schools of the MAC understand the important role that athletics plays in the social, emotional, and physical well-being or our student-athletes.   The MAC will continue its work to prepare for successful seasons upon the return to competition, including coordination with Section IV, NYSPHSAA, local health departments, and government authorities.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue working together to provide opportunities for our athletes in the safest possible manner.
