Akshar’s All Star Award!
Each “Akshar All-Star” is recognized with a t-shirt, framed certificate, and a challenge coin.  “This is a great opportunity for us to work with school districts throughout the 52nd Senate District to recognize outstanding young people who are doing wonderful things in our community,” Akshar said in a statement.

Cordel is a student in the Conservation and Heavy Equipment Technology Program at DCMO BOCES.  He received Student of the Year in 2016.  Cordel is the BOCES FFA President.  He has completed training for operating a skid steer, excavator, back hoe, bulldozer and wheel loader, as well as safety and operation of chainsaw, wood splitter and greenhouse.  In November of 2017 Cordel was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society.

At his homeschool, in addition to maintaining good grades, Cordel is a member of the soccer and track and field teams.  He has received the Scholar-Athlete Award in both sports.  He has also participated in YES! Leads, chorus and orchestra.  He is a “leader by example” both in the classroom and on the athletic field.  He is patient and willing to help others without hesitation.

Outside of school Cordel is a volunteer firefighter in Bainbridge and received the Rookie of the Year Award.  He is a Boy Scout, Rank Life.  He has worked for McKown Lawn Care and Landscaping since 2013.  In his spare time, he enjoys building and racing remote control trucks.  He has applied to Cobleskill for the Diesel Mechanics Program.

Cordel’s Conservation instructor, Zach Whittaker shares:  Cordel has shown outstanding toughness and character while in the Conservation Program.  He has had to balance school, work, firefighting and most importantly, family this past year.  Cordel is always positive and upbeat regardless of what he is encountering each day.  Cordel’s natural talent, knowledge, attitude, and character will ensure his success in whatever he chooses in his future after graduation.
